Rolex Kentucky 27th April

The Kentucky Horse Park certainly turned on the charm offensive for the jog yesterday afternoon with stunning blue skies which brought out a larger than normal crowd for the first horse inspection. Every year, without fail, I am quite simply staggered by the jog outfits that the American riders go for as they look more like they are off to a society wedding than the ‘casual smart’ look favoured over here in Europe!

Tim, Beth and Christiana Ober are actually shade seeking in this photo!

Varenna Allen has e mailed to say that she and her daughter Sophie have been allocated a golf buggy and that they have already bounced their way around the entire cross country course, nipped back to the hotel and got changed before heading out to a drinks reception. I can imagine the organisers looking at Varenna and thinking that their golf buggy would be driven sedately around pedestrian areas…. for any of us that know Varenna we are aware that this golf buggy will go places that no buggy has been before! Way to go Varenna!

US based kiwi Joe Meyer hosted a supper of smoked ribs at the campsite last night… Joe is an exceptional cook and his wife Ruthie a great hostess so I am sure that got the week off to a perfect start.
