A very long wait for Jonelle as she didn’t start cross country until after 3 pm and by that time it had become apparent that the course was causing plenty of problems that were spread all over it. The last minute in particular was tough on the horses and only one rider made time all day.
Faerie Dianimo ( Maggie May) flew out of the start box and looked to be on top form. The first corner combination was foot perfect and the tricky first water was no problem. Maggie had her ears jammed forward and ate up the challenge of being back at four star and Jonelle looked as good as she had in Rio…it was actually hard to imagine she had left a 12 week old baby with Tim when she hopped on!
Picking up just 9.2 time elevated them from 25th to 9th and it was fair to say Jonelle was absolutely delighted with her round. Maggie May pulled up really well and her heart rate dropped back very quickly which was good to see…all the water treadmill work along with the galloping paid off.
It was an incredible day of ups and downs. We were lucky to be an up…and would like to say how sad we were for Boyd Martin and his connections for the loss of Crackerjack. Boyd was so professional in the way that he dealt with it and it came at the end of an amazing round. It was a freak accident and just a huge piece of bad luck.
