Kentucky Dressage

The sun was shining this afternoon in Kentucky and it would appear that McClaren ( Mac) finds his second trip to the USA much to his liking.  He entered the main arena with a cocky expression on his face but fair to say the little fella produced his best test to date and stayed with Jonelle the whole way through.

It was mistake free but marked pretty harshly by the American judge at H!  Gretchen Butts scored a miserly 62% where as Nick Burton, President at C,  was on 68% and Christian Steiner on 69%.   If they had been on a par, as they were with Boyd, Mac would have been very close to that score. An end score of 33.4 looks a little off the pace but in reality they sit right in the mix of the pack that are chasing Michi Jung who sits on a 20.1 on Fisher Chipmunk who produced a test of such harmony and ride ability they sit way ahead at present.  Boyd Martin produced one of his best test rides on the experienced Tsetserleg to sit in 2nd on 29.3 and then its very close scoring for the next group in the low to mid 30’s.

And tomorrow is another true 5 star test.  The weather forecast isn’t brilliant….but Jonelle is a star at riding in tough conditions.  Jonelle said that the track is “big as normal… its Kentucky, but here are some lines through the waters in particular that will require some 5 star riding”.

What ever happens tomorrow Mac has laid down his gauntlet fair and square to place himself in contention for a podium spot.  Thats why they  are there and that’s why they are a tenacious partnership!
