Dauntsey 16th July

Dauntsey 16th July

A 4 am return from Jardy, a day at pre Aachen squad training on Monday with Isobel Wessels and Luis Alvarez Cevera and then a young horse day at Dauntsey on Tuesday.  It really doesn’t stop at this time year!

Tayla Mason rode De L’Amour ( Della) in the 4 year old class in the morning and succeeded in completing which was more than 50% of the class did around Beanie Sturgess’s tough enough BE 90 track!  Feel the Vibes is an ex racehorse with a lovely cute attitude and he also completed his first event so a good start to the day.

Jonelle was double handed with C’est Le Belle (Belle) and Totally Cooley (TC) whilst Tim had Delarado ( Darcy) out for her second start in just over a week.  Belle is a good looking grey mare and a 26.8 on the flat and a smart clear showjumping shows that she is progressing nicely but Beanie’s double of T’s at fence 6 was a bit of a shock!  A brief look and another attempt and she finished with just the 20 on her card which was impressive.  TC also did a nice test for a 28 but his showjumping technique is currently at the “green” stage which resulted in 12 faults.  He is undoubtedly going to be careful but right now he tends to spook quite violently and then, as he props, keeps his front legs straight which is not actually the best of ways to negotiate the knockdown fences!

The score sheet says he picked up a 20 at fence 2 but the rider reports that whilst he could have been given a 20 for a hesitation at any of the fences on track he didn’t actually stop at anything!  I think Jonelle had to work a bit harder than she does on her advanced horses but it was fun to watch!

Darcy is growing up by the day and she posted a 32 and her first double clear…. no mean feat at Dauntsey!  At Upton last week she left the start box and zig zagged down to the first where as just a week later she went out in a straight line and looked for the first fence.  She is a beautiful mare with a very smart technique already and looks to be an exciting addition to Tim’s string.

The horse box left for Aachen that evening with Wesko, (Dash), Faerie Dianimo ( Maggie May) and James Avery’s Mr Sneezy on board.  Tim and Jonelle were due to join the rest of the crew at Heathrow at 6.30am for the short flight out to Dusseldorf and then we have one of the best weeks of the year where we are lucky enough to get to participate in the Greatest Show On Earth…. Aachen CCIO!
