Camphire CCI 3 SJ and CIC 3 Cross country

Camphire CCI 3 SJ and CIC 3 Cross country

In the CIC 3 Tim and Ascona M ( Ava) added 8 faults to their cross country score to drop to third behind stablemate Kincooley Cruising ( Minnie) in a super tough showjumping with short distances that saw only a couple of clear rounds all afternoon.  Ava is an astoundingly talented mare but she is a tricky one as well and after Jonelle had produced her to 2 star level so well she set Tim up nicely for 2017 when she was pregnant. Ava took the opportunity this spring to work out that Jonelle is not anywhere near as strong as Tim and took advantage and Jonelle’s first comment was that such talent could not be wasted and handed the ride back to Tim.  That is pretty gracious!  Turns out Ava is a “blue” job….

Tim has produced Kincooley Cruising ( Minnie) since another pregnancy too… he took over the ride when Sammi Birch was pregnant in 2015.  Sammi had produced Minnie up to intermediate but, as she also grew taller during her time with Tim,  Sammi recommended to owner Susan Lamb that Tim keep the ride. Tim and Minnie have done great things along the way but this is her first CCI 3 star and she could not have handled it better. Adding just 4 faults she finished in the runner up slot and it was a win for Ireland with Cathal Daniels but a Kiwi 2/3/4 with Jesse Campbell in 4th spot with Cleveland and Blyth Tait in 7th.

Jonelle sure had one of those mixed weekends but she won the CCI 2 star with Hester after a showjumping clear which left ex working student James Avery just point 2 behind her in the runner up slot.  As an ex student James was doing the Price’s proud.. he had led the one star dressage and finished fourth in the CIC 3 star on a NZ TB with only one of two cross country rounds inside the time.

In the CIC 3 star Tim was obviously looking at the bigger picture with Burghley in mind so he jumped 2 lovely clear cross country rounds on Ringwood Sky Boy ( Ozzie) and Bango ( Uno) to pick up 19 and 15 time and finish in 7th and 8th.  Jonelle and Cooley Showtime ( Eddie) picked up a 20 cross country for a technical when Jonelle was forced to do a circle and some time to finish just inside the top 20 and some more experience for Eddie along the way.

Yet again the Team NZ squad showed their strength and they dominated the CCI3 and Team Price having 8 horses running over the four days it was inevitable that they were not all going to pick up places.  The troops will be homeward bound now and Coco Price has a new baby sister to look forward to meeting… welcome to the world Pia Price and congratulations to Darnelle and Cam!
