The horses loaded up and left Mere Farm on Wednesday for their journey to Kentucky 5 star with fellow Kiwi Jesse Campbell and Diachello (Danny) joining them for the drive to Stanstead. The horses went on Tim and Jonelle’s maxi and Jesse drove all the gear which Kerryn and Lucy have spent hours squashing down as much as possible but 5 horses does require allot of gear!
Lucy and Megan also left on Wednesday and they arrived in Louisville some hours before the horses. The horses landed in Indianapolis and arrived at the quarantine centre in the early hours of Thursday morning having all travelled really well. It’s a new quarantine centre for us and efficient work by the team from Pedens meant that the girls are able to go in twice a day and even do some hand walking around the barn which is a huge plus point.
Meanwhile Tim and Jonelle have some 9 horses to ride at Burnham Market and they left on Thursday afternoon with Otis, Abel and Harriet as they have booked an Airbnb for the weekend and Otis was very much looking forward to being reunited with his pal Bruno Duffort as he hasn’t seen him since Pau! Friday was an easy competition day with one novice apiece and plenty of horses to ride in prep for tomorrow. Jonelle had Tomochichi (Chichi) for one of his last novice outings and he tends to slip under the radar as a TB up against some flashy warmbloods at this level but he is a classy horse who is going to revel when the tougher cross country sorts them out! He wound up in 11th without really trying whilst his stable mate, he-of-the-flashy-warmblood-breeding, Chio 20 finished up in 2nd and his star is beginning to ascend this year.
Saturday is a long day filled with advanced horses so the crew will stay up in Norfolk before heading to Heathrow on Sunday with a lunchtime flight and then Harriet will bring Otis and Abel back to Little Thatch.
