After both Ringwood Sky Boy ( Ozzie) and Xavier Faer (Hugo) presented at the jog and looked fantastic it was a long wait until 2.25 when the top 25 started to showjump.  The sun may have deserted Burghley but the rain held off and the crowds were as big as ever for the climax of the event.

Hugo gave us all a fright when he spooked at fence 2 ( Tim said afterwards there was an automatic camera at the base of it clicking away frantically!) but he jumped a good round with just one error.  Adding 4 faults to his score still elevated him up two places to 18th which is pretty impressive with a 20 on his card!  This time last year Hugo had yet to do a 4 star…now he has 3/4 of Pau and 3rd at Badminton and Burghley top 20 under his belt which is good going for an 11 year old!

Ozzie is a horse who really does not relish the limelight but he is all heart so he deals with it because Tim says it will be ok. He went into the arena with his workboots on and absolutely bust a gut to jump one of his smartest rounds and was just a bit unlucky to tap one out.  It dropped him just one place to 5th which is still a tremendous effort and one to be very proud of.

The year is over for Ozzie and Hugo and they will now go on a truly well deserved holiday.  Its such a great time of year to go out, at the very start of the autumn when the grass is good and the days are still warm enough to go without a rug. Both of these horses have World Equestrian Games written all over them and it’s a very nice way for them both to finish the 2017 season.

No such luck for Tim though.. he still has Blenheim, Boekelo, Ballindenisk, Lignieres and numerous one days to go as well!
