When an Irish rider like Esib Power tells you that today was the worst conditions she has ever evented in you know that the weather was simply awful at Ballindenisk!   Jonelle said it held off raining for much of the day but there were “hurricane” winds and then the heavens opened again and the ground can only be described a sticky swamp!

Pats Jester was a star in his CIC 3 star cross country and dealt manfully with the atrocious going.  Tim quite sensibly picked up 8 time as it’s also PJ’s first CCI 3 star and Tim knows all about saving a bit for the next day.  This slipped him down to third place overnight with Ben Hobday and former Jesse Campbell 4 star horse Kaapachino in the lead and Esib Power and Mind Me ahead of him.  He said he couldn’t have been happier with PJ.

Providores ( Bruno) is also at his first international and he got properly scared when Tim had to stop half way through his show jumping round for the crew to rebuild the fences which were blowing down all around him!  That is not ideal…. 16 jumping is not a reflection of anything but the conditions.

Faerie Dianimo (Maggie May) had to wait until the end of the day to showjump her CIC 3 star track.  For a Princess like Maggie May it must have been quite awful to have to deal with that mud with her dainty little feet!  Jonelle said she was genuinely worried that Maggie May would not be able to cope as she tends to go higher and wider in the mud and boy, was it muddy.  It was a big old track they built as well!  But Maggie May clearly has no intention of hanging out at Brockenhurst Park as a brood mare and she just dug deep and gave it her everything to jump a clear round, one of only 4 in the whole class of 30 plus to do so. They did pick up 5 time but Maggie May spent allot of time in the air and Jonelle made the turns as smooth as she could.  What a little legend!

Tomorrow sees Maggie May go cross country as well as Bruno and PJ showjump the main class.  I can only say I don’t envy them in the horsebox with a baby and all that mud!
