Aachen Thursday jog

Aachen Thursday jog

The Greatest Show on Earth is here again and it is bigger and better than ever with record crowds in a sell out Aachen with people delighted to be back with no restrictions and most of all no facemasks.

Hot all day on Thursday and after the briefing the troops walked the track and then returned to the stables for some shade and water before the trot up at 5pm.  Around 10 minutes before 5 the heavens opened and a thunderstorm passed over resulting in some soggy jog photos and some very wet riders and horses!  Luckily we had drawn team no.4 slot so we didn’t have to hang out for too long.

Dressage early doors on Friday with Jonelle back in her pathfinder position after some time bringing up the rear.  She and Killbunny Andy don’t head down the centre line until just after 11am though as Aachen are, in a break with tradition, running all 13 individual riders first before the teams start.  NZ don’t have an individual this time around and since Aachen run the cross country with the top 25% in reverse order the chosen running order of teams is often thrown under the bus by Saturday morning!

Jesse Campbell and Gambesie ( Kevin) runs no.2 at 12.08, Clarke Johnstone at 12.53 with Leopard’s Action ( Leo) and Tim and Falco at 1.53.

Then the showjumping starts at 5.30 pm with our chance in the simply stunning main arena and another chance to tread the hallowed turf.  We are so very lucky to be here!
