Jonelle and Faerie Dianimo ( Maggie May) were the third team members into the arena and they gave a great display with some of Maggie May’s trademark trot extensions and some super work throughout to score a very competitive 26.9. With just 2 OI’s and one ERM ( Arville) under her belt since winning Luhmuhlen last year it was a great way to come back into the big time and showed that yet again if you give Maggie May a big atmosphere she never fails to rise to the challenge. She has a pretty cool jockey as well!
Tim and Wesko ( Dash) were in the fourth rotation of team riders and they not only nailed the test for a PB of 23.8 we were informed by Diarm of Equiratings that this was Tim’s best ever score at any level FEI ever so that was a nice result! Dash simply gave Tim his all and a mistake free and fluent test deserved that mark and was well rewarded by all three judges. Team NZ now lay in bronze position behind the Germans and the Brits.
More course walking in the sunshine followed before a 15 minute break in the main arena for the CCIO 4 star course walk and the showjumping began. The poles fell for many and when Jonelle and Maggie May entered the arena it was clear that only a clear was going to elevate the team and they duly produced a fabulous display of galloping and jumping and looked emphatically back to their best with a dazzling clear.
Tim and Dash looked amazing in the warm up and continued to impress with their round in the arena with another classy performance and despite adding down the final line Tim squeaked in under time to ensure a clean slate. That meant that the team three counting scores at this stage just added 4 faults from Jesse Campbell and Cleveland with Dan Jocelyn and Blackthorn Cruise siting on 8 for the drop score.
This was enough to bring the team up into silver just 3 penalties behind the Germans and with a strong cross country track to deal with tomorrow morning everything to play for.
The traditional Friday night BBQ out on the cross country was, as always, well attended and great fun. Its a strong team with riders and horses full of confidence and as always Aachen never fails to disappoint. Tim and Dash now lie in 2nd by just 0.9 behind Laura Collett and London 52 and Maggie May and Jonelle in 8th spot on an equal score with Michy Jung. Its a very close top 10 and no doubt the leader board will change again tomorrow!
Tim and Dan Jocelyn tried a spot of vaulting on the way home through the indoor on the wooden horses and proved that the days of easily doing that seem to have gone.. but they felt that in order to honour our loyal farrier Andrew Nickalls who possessed a passion for such antics after a few bevvys it had to be done. Our new farrier, Jack Young, was no where to be seen at this point! Probably very wisely as at this point we are still injury free!
